What would be the best method to obtain hourly wind speed data from monthly mean wind speed data?

I have homogenized monthly mean wind speed data and want to re-create hourly wind speed series from that. I used knn regression to simulate hourly wind speed data. I was wondering if there are other methods that can be used.
