I'm looking to get an idea of the intensity of circumscribed interests for young children (3-6 years) with autism. Does anyone know of an appropriate parent questionnaire that can be used to measure this symptom?
In our country ,we developed a system for Parents involvement in Autism intervention because Parents are the vital part in intervention. Every country need to involve parents in intervention procedure of Autism.
The Interests Scale, a parent-rating questionnaire, and the Interview for Repetitive Behaviors, a semi-structured interview can be used to assess circumscribed interests in children with autism.
You can use following measures to assess CI:
Autism Diagnostic Interview, Revised, Social Communication Questionnaire, Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Childhood Autism Rating Scale.
Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS)
International Performance Scale
Bodfish JW. Interests Scale; It is a checklist of 39 items that describe typical childhood interests. Parents rate whether their child spends time with or focuses on each item. There are some open-ended question to identify primary interest or hobby of their child, and some questions about functional impairment associated with that interest. These multiple choice questions to rate their child’s overall interest, the frequency of activity related to the interest, the degree of interference with other activities, the degree of resistance when interrupted, the degree of flexibility or adaptability, the amount of accommodation required, and involvement of others.
Saman Zafar thank you! I've read a few papers now which mention the Interests Scale, it seems like it would be the most appropriate measure for quantifying CI's in my research.
Do you by chance have a copy of the Interests Scale that you would be able to share with me?
