While doing micro-modelling of Brick masonry in ABAQUS, I am using Dynamic Explicit step for the analysis. What will the best option for the time period while using the same?
In Dynamic Explicit analysis, the time step should be small enough to capture the high-frequency response of the structure accurately while maintaining computational efficiency. However, choosing an excessively small time step can lead to longer simulation times without significant improvement in accuracy.
The best approach is to conduct a time step sensitivity analysis, starting with a larger time step and gradually decreasing it until the results stabilize. This process helps find the optimal balance between accuracy and computational efficiency.
Remember to also consider the material properties, boundary conditions, and loading characteristics of your model, as they can influence the appropriate choice of time step.
