In the study "Underfilling of vacuum blood collection tubes leads to increased lactate dehydrogenase activity in serum and heparin plasma samples", researchers compared LD activity levels in serum (SE) and heparin plasma (HP) blood collection tubes when completely filled versus underfilled.
According to the study by Neuwinger et al. (2019), lactate dehydrogenase (LD) activity was significantly elevated in insufficiently filled serum (SE) tubes compared to completely filled SE tubes. Similarly, LD activity was notably higher in underfilled heparin plasma (HP) tubes compared to completely filled HP tubes. Furthermore, LD activity was higher in heparin plasma samples compared to serum samples, showing increases of +28.3% and +21.6%, respectively.
