Well said. If one completed Ph.D. and one is necessary for a institute called for interview they ask on research topic, your interest and your contribution. They may also ask as can you apply for a research proposal and do research project. This depends from institution to institution.
Here are the questions Often asked: (1) Please tell us about yourself. (2) Why are you interested in this position? (3) Please tell us about your research interests. (4) What is your teaching philosophy? (5) what are your long term career goals? (6) what are your strengths and weaknesses relative to this position? )7) Do you have any questions for us?
The most common questions are: "When interviewing a particular person is a test of personality and tact, and often" what is required of him briefly, including qualifications and academic achievement, certificates and experience obtained, as well as courses and skills . ...C.V. Why did you do this job....... etc
When going into the interview room before asking questions, interviewers see and observe psychology of a person. They don't start questions immediately, they make person to relieve from nervousness and make relaxed by interacting to make person feel comfortable. If the person knows and not able to answer, interviewers give hints and try to get the answers. Interviewers do not see exactly correct answers, they only see how the candidate is responding to questions and defending himself in quite decent manner tackling the situation.
For the post of instructor/lecturer, they are apt to ask the candidate to work out a problem on the blackboard illustrating a concept (for example equation of a straight line and its interpretations). They are also apt to ask the candidate about prior teaching experiences as well as ask for student evaluations from the past. They may also give you a scenario, for example, a student would not put the cell phone away during class and ask how you would handle that situation.
What type of questions are asked in an interview for the post of an instructor / lecturer?
Agreed with the questions shared by previous RG members. Also want to share - some interviewers might not just asked closed question but rather some open-ended / scenario-based / hypothetical questions to see your reaction & how you answer them. So you need to share your thoughts with justification. Also just suggestion which might / not work with some people - when you have time, try to anticipate all the possible questions with your own answers ready to minimize your anxiety or to increase your confidence.
Usually asked about your publications, expertise in your field, academic experience..and off course why do you want to join this position/ institute/ centre..
Why did you choose this specialization? How do you develop yourself within the specialization? How important is your specialization in solving community problems? What is the method that enables you to attract students towards you and your specialty?
