I am asking for a student I'm mentoring. It's an action research project with a small sample of maybe 8-10 participants. If the student includes a likert attitude scale but is mostly focusing on qualitative data from and after a professional development intervention, what kind of design would it be?

mix method research (Sequential designs) can be either
Explanatory Design: Quantitative data followed by qualitative data
Exploratory Design: Qualitative data followed by quantitative data
Sequential Embedded Design:
Before-intervention (Qualitative)
Intervention Trial (Quantitative)
After-intervention (Qualitative)
You are introducing an intervention and measuring a change in attitude before and after the intervention. This would be a prospective, non-randomised, open-label study. The Likert scale will measure qualitative data quantitatively. This would still very much be a quantitative study.

While this question was still unanswered, I did find some resources on incorporating mixed method research designs into action research. My mentee had mentioned sequential explanatory design, and I happened to find a book that detailed what that would look like in action research. Based on the information provided, I think sequential explanatory design would be fitting for her study's design.
