if you work under atmospheric pressure simple laboratoy glassware setup will be enough, however if you work under reduced or high pressure an autoclave is necessary. For the Evolved gases special glass accesssories are used to entrap them. Regards

SS316 is preferred for pyrolysis.

Quartz is a very good material for pyrolysis and it's less reactive than 316 SS and allows you to physically see the char formation. It's also able to withstand temperatures of up to 1000 C very easily. In addition you can burn tar or soot formed on its walls and have a clean reactor in minutes. Lab-style borosilicate glass is not good for high temperatures and cannot be burnt. If you have a good glass-blower at hand, quartz is an excellent option.

Apart from the selection of a suitable material, it is perhaps relevant to think about the design of the reactor itself. For this size range, a fixed-bed reactor is one of the most convenient options. You place the polymer material inside a tubular reaction vessel that you can heat up to the desired reaction temperature. Since you also want to analyze the pyrolysis products, you need a carrier gas (e.g. nitrogen) that can be used for flushing the volatile products out from the reactor. The volatiles can then be passed through a condensation system for collecting liquid products, while the non-condensable gases can be e.g. sampled in gas bags and analyzed using gas chromatography. 

I think the type of pyrolysis reactor is under question and so initially it is most easy for first testing and understanding the process to use a retort or closed vessel type of reactor, provided sim-ply with external heating of that and closed piping the gas-vapor flow from reactor to condenser by itself at the same time. With purpose of most simple and most commercial use, but less of environmental and humanitarian, the Chinese pyrolysis system with a rotary-batch reactor is most available, provided with a terrible manual service of that for processing the whole tires. In contrast to that the auger or multi-auger pyrolysis rector for continue processing the crashed tire bulk material is a most modern and industrial type of that, operating so as no open condition at any point and step of processing.
