In our lab, we use penicillin/streptomycin/amphotericin products in the cell culture.
We were just wondering if we can use any type of solution containing these 3 antibiotics... Can we get commercial products from the pharmacy or products dedicated for veterinary use?
If these antibiotics comes in oily solutions, does it affect the growth of the cells?
NB: We manipulate epithelial cells and macrophages.

If you are not able to obtain those antibiotics design for cell culture (for example the Anti Anti from Gibco) you can try to obtain those drugs for intravenous injection (the ones used for treating patients at hospitals). Gentamicin can be obtained in that presentation as well as other drugs, however no ever drug can be obtained in that presentation. I´ve never tried in oily solutions.

In our experience all antibiotics influence cell growth/differentiation. In addition they can also have a negative impact when the cultured cells are applied to patients (therapy) or in models.
That is why, some years ago, we decided not to add antibiotics to our cell culture media anymore. We only use them in the initial isolation step, where the donor tissue can be contaminated or is known to contain commensals (e.g. human skin).
Of course, this approach will require good laboratory practice.
