We're considering replacing an old treadmill with something that would be suitable for running research studies on. One of our current stress testing treadmill, a GE T2100, is a great EKG machine. However, the large plastic piece at the front of the treadmill makes it difficult to use in performance running studies because the runners the plastic piece often interferes with the runners' natural strides. Additionally, the treadmill does not provide the runner an opportunity to self adjust pace and grade, and distance run is not provided in the display. We are seeking to replace our backup treadmill with something more appropriate to conducting running performance studies.

I think it would depend on what type of athletes you are working with and what type of studies you are thinking of conducting. I have been working with Woodway treadmills for years and I really believe that they are without comparison. They link up with most metabolic kit, are reliable, powerful (we have tested 200 Kg participants) and dont have the annoying plastic bit at the front. In addition to the usual physiological assessment, Woodway but also ADAL (ADAL3D-WR; Medical Development, HEF Tecmachine, Andrézieux-Bouthéon, France) would permit a biomechanical approach. ADAL is a motorized instrumented treadmill which has been recently validated for sprint use (for details, see the articles from Morin et al.). Briefly, It is mounted on a highly rigid metal frame fixed to the ground through four piezoelectric force transducers (KI 9077b; Kistler, Winterthur, Switzerland) and installed on a specially engineered concrete slab to ensure maximal rigidity of the supporting ground. Mechanical, kinematic and kinetic variables are measured, as well as Ratio of forces and index of force application technique.
Interesting point: in sprint configuration ADAL allow subjects to sprint maximally from a standing position and to decelerate on a free pace mode. This mode could be used to perform repeated sprints.
Would it be possible to buy metrics to test physiological outcomes that can be clipped to the runner? This way the treadmill could be one that the runners recommend as comfortable for their strides. Most treadmills will display pace/distance.
l think you can do two things: you can buy new treadmill machine of the same type you are using before or repair it. Because, it seems the treadmill that you are using before which is a GE T2100, is a great EKG machine always gives the right measures. unless if you have decided to buy another model.
You can try Quinton environmental treadmill made of USA .it is strong,having all modern safety as well as performance tests. Four in build exercise protocols are added feature of the treadmill. expensive but it has value for your money. PCG, CLI.
