The environmental requirement of the crop and the environment of the locality should be considered first. I they matched, then consider the market demand, price of the crop in nearby market or locality. Consider the cultivation cost, required inputs and labor availability, social condition, transport facilities etc. for commercial and profitable cultivation of new crop in the new areas. If it done for hobby or private purpose then only environmental requirement is enough.
Non conventional area should have certain similarities with the environmental conditions in conventional crop area. Most importantly temperature, moisture and light duration are important parameters apart from soil health that plays major role in deciding the crop yield. Moreover, pest and disease management will be a challenging task in the new location which should be closely monitored as there are chances of plant disease transmission due to changes in crop ecology. Additionally, post harvest processing cost, market competitions and skilled manpower are other requirements for cultivating crops in non conventional areas.
