I watched a tutorial on YouTube and the presenter mentioned that an abstract can be written before the main paper. First, is this advisable or ideal? Second, can it be discipline specific or generalised? Please I need your thoughts because I have always written my abstract after completing my paper.
I do not think there can be a rigid rule about this. It depends on personal preference, type of publication and authors confidence and knowledge of the subject matter. Writing the abstract first can be helpful to crystalise thoughts about the content of the paper.

For me an abstract should be done at the end only. How can one synthetize what does not exist yet?

Perhaps, this author uses abstracts as part of the project of his paper. Why not posting that link for us to see. Then, we can see how he does it and then improve our discussion here. I write a paper in a very funny way. First, I prepare the project and later I devide the topics as individual sub topics and only at the end I mount the whole thing in one text.
