Many celebrities commit suicide despite that media portrayals ofen show that they are happy people. Is the media deceiving audience? Please share your views.
Celebrities are often empty because of the over-ambitious drive of their backdoor staff especially their managers who overwork them and milk them for a greater part of their proceeds. Also, the thought of failing increases their blood levels and their lives become empty. Some also engage in foul lifestyles such as smoking, addiction to cocaine, sex addiction and so forth which are dictated largely by some members of their management team. In some cases, when these celebrities are successful, they blackmail them and taint their images when their great and insatiable needs are not honored by them.
Others also set unattainable targets usually driven by their managers. Usually, if these celebrities are not helped psychologically, they will be left with only one solution to get out of this everlasting stressful prison which is suicide.
Celebrities are generally risk taking persons and gain name and fame some times due to their luck factor. Their financial development some times not sustainable and they often fall in much difficulties that may stress them their limit of tolerance. This may some time creat a mental state more prone to sucide.
Suicide is the result of depression , worries, tension, frustration , & such other related feelings . It is a negative traits of the mind ,failing to receive a right type of guidance thru our brain .Suicide is witness & as such it is the cause of ending the life journey for which nature & destiny has showered on us .
It is the fact & unfortunately that celebrities are committing suicide they are the person of standing in the society or by their own name they have achieved the status of well known personality . Such persons who are committing suicide breaking their valuable career ,name ,& frame , their ending of life remain a talk of the time for sometime period.
Such celebrities when they are committing suicide as due to their unfortunate destiny ,action, they are afraid of loosing their moral line of life ,reputation, status ,& last but not the least such celebrities are placing a black dot on the family & especially on the children for which they have to phase the social observation for certain time till they reach to their career stage .

Celebrities besides the using of their fortune , they are certain celebrities who s' action have made them victim for which they become the target of the prosecution & others who have lost the moral code of ethics for which they become victim & talk for the society .
There are other factors but this are the cause for celebrities to commit suicide .
Is it true that the suicide rate is higher? Certainly multiple divorces among "celebrities" seem more common than in the general population. And many other manifestations of maladjustment, such as substance abuse.
The image portrayed in the press, of celebrities, is usually contrived. One should not be overly surprised if the unjustified public adulation such individuals receive, day in and day out, perhaps then followed by complete neglect after they are out of the spotlight, would cause mental stress. Any form of drastically distorted everyday living environments cannot help but cause side effects. Minds are ultimately fragile. It takes a very special celebrity to have the mental fortitude to not let the public image go to his or her head.
If one has to place blame, blame goes to the fans. Quit the nonsensical adoration.
I heartily thank everyone for these insightful answers. I can understand that depression, divorce, substance abuse, frustration, isolation, being over-ambitious and as Albert puts it: nonsensical adoration by fans contribute to suicide among celebrities.
The media does not have to do with that. They decieve themselves. They are dependent on dopamine spikes and dopamine tells them they feel good and they want more and more of that. All of a sudden those triggers of happiness do not work anymore. Some of them look for drugs for help and soon the same happen and the drug does not change their humor state. At last, they lose control and then comes suicide as an option.
Maybe the average is not so high. What happens is that because they are public people, this generates news. In addition, I agree with the placement of @Vilemar.
Life is different for celebrities. They are always in stress. they want to attain unbelievable heights which is not at all possible. This lead to frustration and suicide.
suicide and the hollywood machine: why do so many actors take their own lives?
By Raidah Shah Idil
I don’t know enough about Hollywood or its lifestyle to understand what drives young actors to take their own lives. Being a psychology graduate, a student counsellor, and a HSP (highly sensitive person), I do know a lot more about the darkness of depression and how easy it is to give into despair.
The last time I felt this jarred by a young actor’s suicide was ten years ago. I was nineteen when I read about the suicide of Jonathan Brandis, one of the actors on SeaQuest DSV. I loved that TV show as a child, and he played Ensign Lucas Wolenczak, one of my favourite characters. Reading about his suicide brought me back to the ten year old I used to be, who couldn’t wait to watch another episode of SeaQuest DSV. Understanding what drove Jonathan Brandis to take his own life will always remain out of reach for me, as it is for the tragic suicide of Lee Thompson Young. My heart goes out to their friends and families, and to everyone who lives on after the suicide of a loved one.
Do you see people that belong to celebrities category here. I do not. It is fine statistics derived.
Unfortunately, specific data of suicide rates by profession is generally imperfect. It is impossible to get an accurate comparison of all careers in regards to suicide rate. Therefore, researchers have taken the time to analyze some of the more common occupations and have come up with a list of professions that are thought to have the highest suicide rates...
Well i agree with Mohammad Aljaradin, suicides are everywhere when we take a look at the overall suicide rate in society, then the suicide rate among celebrities may appear quite abysmal. However, given their stardom and the public attention their suicide receives, it appears that their suicide rate is quite high, which otherwise is not so
Excellent contribution. As it seemed to me, indeed those professions with the greatest intellectual demand - but not all - are with the greatest indicators. This shows that science needs to advance further in the search for understanding of what leads such professionals to this extreme gesture!
the entertainment industry is a drug money laundry that exploits talented addicts ,,,the isolation of addiction in contrast with the glitter of the media icons outer facade create an unbearable loneliness, an ontological breach that is intense enough to warrant self termination.
Thanks for these excellent contributions. As some commenters said that studies on why professionals commit suicide should be conducted, I agree with that. But if these professionals enjoy what can be called vainglory, and allow themselves to be pushed into vanity by the entertainment industry, don't you think they have to be blamed? Are they not mature and rational enough to resist being used? Some commenters said that they are isolated. By who? Are they not supposed to have many fans/followers? Does it mean that they don't make friends with anybody?
The cause of an individual suicide is invariably more complicated than a recent painful event such as the break-up of a relationship or the loss of a job. An individual suicide cannot be adequately explained as the understandable response to an individual’s stressful occupation, or an individual’s membership in a group encountering discrimination. Social conditions alone do not explain a suicide. People who appear to become suicidal in response to such events, or in response to a physical illness, generally have significant underlying mental problems, though they may be well-hidden.
Long‐term impact of celebrity suicide on suicidal ideation: results from a population‐based study!
Celebrity suicide is a risk factor for suicidal ideation over a short term as well as over a long term. Raising awareness of the possible negative effect of celebrity suicide through suicide prevention programmes in the community is needed...
Many thanks Prof Ljubomir Jacić. A part of the result read thus: ''Respondents having greater anxiety symptoms, less reason for living and more focus on irrational values were also found to have had their suicide ideation affected by celebrity suicide''. This is in line with some of the answers you and other commenters provided earlier. I think that similar research has to be conducted in Africa and other continents where studies have not been conducted, so that we can have global evidence which may help in the provision of effective interventions.
'Tortured geniuses' more likely to commit suicide, study finds
By Olivia Rudgard
For the first time reliable data has shown that the suicide rate among people working in creative roles is significantly higher than the national average.
The first-ever study of suicide by profession from the ONS, which covered England in the years from 2011 to 2015, showed that people who work in arts-related jobs are up to four times more likely to commit suicide.
Among men working in culture, media and sport-related jobs, the risk is 20 per cent higher, and among women it is 69 per cent higher.
The risk is even more pronounced among individual professions. Male artists are more than twice as likely to commit suicide, and with female artists the risk quadruples.
Many thanks Mohannad for this information. The data you provided support the fact that suicide may be high among those who are working in the entertainment industry. One thing that is not clear is whether this is worldwide or that it is more common in some cultures. This is where large-scale studies have to be conducted.
Forbes magazine released its list of the top 100 celebrities in the world, and its an interesting and intriguing list for anyone interested in the media and its effect on our society.
The criteria for the ranking on the list are interesting, for starters. Forbes uses a complicated formula that takes earnings, press clippings, magazine covers, TV /radio appearances, and Internet Web hits all intro consideration. This combination of money and media begs the question of what exactly IS celebrity. Obviously, according to Forbes magazine, it has nothing at all to do with talent, intelligence, contributions to the world, or quality of character. It's all money and media.
And this special formula which they created makes for some interesting entries and placements on the list. Julia Roberts - only number 12 in terms of earnings with 50 million dollars - is nonetheless top of the celebrity list, based in large part on her seven magazine covers, ten thousand press clips, and forty-one thousand Internet hits. For the record, George Lucas (400 million dollars in earnings), Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Michael Jordan, the Rolling Stones, Tiger Woods, the Backstreet Boys, Cher and Stephen Spielberg round out the Top 10.
In my opinion, the answer to your question is the following: If you want to be a celebrity, you need to be in the focus of the media most of the time, because this is the channel used by the celebrities to be in the mind of part of the people. This people like to know how celebrities live, how successful is their career, what are their wishes, among other things.
To be in the focus of the media you must give to this part of the public an image of happiness and health. Many times, you have heard a statement about the happiness of a couple of celebrities and behind the scene, the relationship between them cannot be more dramatic and explosive. Suddenly, the relationship between these celebrities, who were very so happy and united before, collapse sometime after a great scandal. Then if a celebrity lost this way of living, many times the only known way to live, they solve this situation making suicide.
For me, the celebrity is a category of people created by the media to satisfy the interest of a part of the society, with the aim of gaining money exploiting the sentiment of this group of people.
Many thanks Mahfuz Judeh for your contribution and the link to the article. It shows that what some of us use as criteria to determine who a celebrity is may no be wrong then.
Why do they have this program in a country that is known for almost not granting their celebrities any private life at all as well as a country that has an alarmingly high high suicide rate in first place? It does not make sense unless you want to stir troubles on purpose. The media over there surely knows how to contribute well to depression...
My opinion is that suicides are also seen in less well-known people, but they are not of interest to the media. Suicides in ordinary people are only reflected in statistics.
