I am synthesizing some Hydrophillic functional groups to the iron oxide nanoparticles but I have some problem in the washing process. Thanks in advance.
It is depending on the fabrication method, present impurities and size of functionalized Fe3O4 particles. You can use DDH2O. if it is too small and contains highly hydrophilic functional groups, better to use membrane dialysis method for washing.
Due to the hydrophilic functional groups on the surface of Fe3O4 particles, it is advisable to use a non-polar or low-polar solvent such as hexane and then dry it at low temperature.
It is obvious that by decreasing the size of the nanoparticles, the interaction between the solvent and the nanoparticles will increase and the solubility will be increased. In other words, the contact surface between nanoparticles and solvent increases and so the solubility increases.
