Dear all,

I am conducting a research project to examine the trunk and lower limb muscle responses to different intensities of repetitive loading. Specifically, I measured the surface electromyography (EMG) of erector spinae, abdominal muscles, quadriceps, hamstrings and gastronemius muscles during the respective isometric maximum voluntary contractions (MVC). Then I instructed the participant to repetitively lift a box with 3 different loads (small, medium, and heavy loads based on the body weight).

Unfortunately, the magnitude of EMG of some muscles consistently exceeded 100% MVC during the heavy loading task. Apparently, the isometric MVC task did not really test the MVC of the given muscle.

Any recommendations? Should I normalize the EMG to another standard position? Should I change the MVC task? Please advise.
