What should be the plants sample size for QTL analysis through SNPs ?

I would like to go QTL analysis for my medicinal plant samples. Peoples are suggesting me to go for higher number of plant sample size (more than 100) but I have its half population size. Is any fix sample size must be there to perform the study ?
