Please, correct me if I am mistaken in my thoughts. When you will left all parameters constant, just adding 50% powder amount, you will obtain bigger powder particles. Thus, to obtain 50% powder amount with the same speed and duration, you need to decrease container volume by 50%, decreasing the volume of zirconia balls by 50%. It is just like descaling.

1. You need to select Ball to Powder Ratio (BPR) that is very important parameter in ball milling (Say for example 10:1)

2. Type of ball milling (Wet with process control agent or dry milling)

3. Type of ball mill whether it is high energy, medium energy or low energy mill

4. Ball milling time and speed these process parameters will play an important role in reducing the particle size.

The above parameters can be addressed properly before starting the experiment.

For reasons of scientific rigor, we can only vary one parameter, so if you want to reduce the amount of powder, simply reduce it. If you want to maintain the same parameters, the ball: powder ratio must be kept constant, this being very important together with the speed. But be careful, if you keep the ball: powder ratio constant, you will reduce the bowl filling ratio, which also has an impact on the grinding efficiency, so it would be ideal to have a bowl with a smaller volume, but with the same diameter.
