A 42 year old male died of Sudden Cardiac Death after running 6 Km on a treadmill at a Gym. He was a regular runner who ran 6-8 Km daily and the marathon 1-2 times a year. His BMI was 24 and a detailed annual check up (including ECG, Hemogram , Lipid profile and other metabolic parameters) done 2 months earlier was normal.

On the said day, he ran his usual 6 Km and collapsed. An autopsy was done on the individual and revealed normal coronaries and no evidence of any cardiomyopathy. There was also no evidence of any anolaous coronaries or any valvular disease.

Perse, it appeared to be a case of ventricular arrythmia. He is survived by his 2 sons aged 10 and 7 years. What tests (if any) should the children undergo. Would they be at risk of a similar episode should they take to athletics or competitive sports later in life?
