I believe that when teaching structural biology it is important to have students learn to see for themselves and not rely only on pictures in texts and articles. I have an extensive compendium of computer laboratory exercises and have been using the program RasMol for many years for my structure courses. In research one has an entire toolbox of programs which are excellent at specific tasks and less good at others. These specialty programs are usually not suitable for beginning students - often having steep learning curves, are not always freeware/shareware, or are not available on all platforms. I look forward to hearing your experiences and recommendations.
