Rifampicin is commonly used to treat tuberculosis and is reported to be delivered by oral gavage to infected mice at 15-50mg/kg. A solution that can deliver these doses in an acceptable volume (200uL) is near or above the aqueous solubility limit. The drug can first be dissolved in a small volume of ethanol then diluted with PBS to the appropriate concentration but solubility remains an issue. Can anyone recommend a method to prepare high concentration solutions of rifampicin for oral gavage?

Thanks,

Brian
