Most innovative ideas contributing to the development of the circular economy are coming from environment specialist. But levaraging of those ideas need to happen by business managers. Besides general knowledge on sustainable business and environment, what other skills and knowhow does the future business manager need to be able to grow the business in the circular economy.
What cognitive skills does the business manager need to be able to develop a linear business model into a circular business model? What skills are needed to manage the implementation of a circular business model?
For example, are other tools and techniques needed to develop a business plan for a business in the circular economy? And if so does that mean different knowhow and skills to develop that business plan?

Circular economy and sustainability are closely interlinked. In circular economy, the industrial effluents are not discharged in biosphere, as in linear economics, but instead, these effluents are controlled in the process design stage, where these are treated and recycled, so as to ensure zero discharge or these may enter biosphere as nutrients for regeneration. The skills that are required are both technical and managerial. Thorough understanding of interactions of People, Process and Environment are essential. Green supply chain management, green manufacturing and green products are the need of the day, in order to tackle climate change and reduce ecological foot print.
The circular economy is a generic term for an industrial economy for producing no waste and pollution. It is aimed to eradicate waste—not just from manufacturing processes, as lean management aspires to do, but systematically, throughout the life cycles and uses of products and their components. The management skill and know how is utmost important for such project . the technical and managerial skill of the process standardisation and work flow is the prime importance for to develop businesses in the circular economy

yours is a very legitimate question. As a matter of fact, existing SMEs are the ones who struggle the most to see how they can enter the CE. Their reaility is quite different from start-ups which can actually enter niches created by the transition from linear to circular practices in a particular industry, and they are also different from large multinations which can afford investing time and resources in important pilot projects.
I am currently co-authoring a book for Routledge titled 'Strategic Management and the Circular Economy' that aims at giving the management tools required to manage a transition from linearity to circularity. It is scheduled to come out in May 2018.

No, I have not considered it, probably due to my ignorance on the subject. I understand blockchain is about cryptography...how would you see that technology helping a transition to circular business operations? Are you thinking of any particular industry?
No not a particular industry but a particular problem that you mentioned. Not being able to compete with R&D of multinationals because of not having the money and the manpower to do the research . A blockchain ecosystem of SMEs in the value chain of their product / service could use the bockchain technology for secured and specified data sharing without needing an R&D cooperate organization. It is like everybody works on a part of the puzzle but nobody will be able to run or sell info of anybody else`s piece of the puzzle.
