Hello everyone, I have a question regarding pyrolysis of plastic waste. Apparently, the liquid products I am getting have different colors, ie. the color darkens (from light yellowish brown to dark brown) as the reactor's temperature bumped up. Does anyone have any idea/insight of this particular phenomenon? Thanks in advance.
Probably you start thermal cracking, so you now can evaporate and condensate more complex pieces of the original polymer. Perhaps you will have more unsaturated hydrocarbons and asphalt/bitumen.
It highly depends on original waste content PE, PP, PS or PVC, and actual temperature. Some color in the final mixture may come with plastics color agents.

as a first step.If you have a mixture of plastics then the most natural explanation of is a difference in peak liquid production for individual plastics (for PE and PP - transparent, for PS - dark and viscous). To get maximum liquid yield multi-step temperature process with fluid drainage after each step may be advised.
