As a former Board of Education member with a wife who has been an outstanding teacher, I suggest the following:
Each student must be recognized as unique so diverse backgrounds just add another layer. Students must be internally challenged by a showing of interest and respect to each - all of the time. And, when failure occurs (like it will) be ready to show/teach in a supportive way other pathways to comprehend that concept.
The best way is to give them knowledge under a big umbrella of research like social sciences research has alot of overlapping areas in other areas, same like psychological research. Have a good luck
