The prisoner's dilemma is a paradox in the analysis of decisions in which two individuals acting in their own interest pursue a course of action that does not result in the ideal outcome. The prisoner's typical dilemma is established in such a way that both parties decide to protect themselves at the expense of the other participant. As a result of following a purely logical thinking process, both participants are in a worse state than if they had cooperated with each other in the decision-making process.
Mathematically , Game theory may have give you a # for a choice :)
I feel it more in a social setting and I live with the dilemma Prof !!!!
Unfortunately I think I am too old to betray things that I grew up with , no not complaining my parents did a good job I am sure !!!!

OR : My community service I am glad I work outside the dilemma realm (Can't say on RG) but has economic implications !!!
When you run out of ideas and is unable to find your way out. This happens when you lack clear understanding of the condition. It needs great meditation and holistic view of the condition to be able to free oneself from that prisoner's dilemma!
Prisoner are those who has committed an offence it depends on t he nature of the offence where prisoner have to stay for the imprisonment punish by the court after the imprisonment for the punishment prisoner remain that how long period they have to stay in jail with the condition completing away from the family . It is this disturbance sensible prisoners are thinking of the punishment given for the offence committing by remembering the family & passing the punishment right from the sunrise to sun set .
With this sensible prisoner which in their moment of passing of their memory they get inspiration to concentrate their mind either they take recourse to study the books of religion or another literature & with the running time they get inspiration to use their reading ,knowledge & also try to put the same in the practice in their life .
This change help them to make a different type of person when they come out from jail . Instincts are notice that certain prisoners in gaining their knowledge in the jail when they come out from prison they contribute their experience & knowledge in the publication of their literature
This is my personal opinion
The rational thing to do in a prisoner's dilemma situation implies to understand that the nature of the problem is moral . So it has to be ethically solved without loosing the sight of each other’s person involved, and keeping their truths in sight like in a mirror, which could be the best judge of a true dilemma , when people do not manipulate and behave sincerely.
