Helena Laboratories used to have a chromogenic assay kit based on the thrombin substrate S-2238, it works in rat plasma. I checked their website and nowadays Xa is been used instead of thrombin. Contact them to find out if they still have the option since you will need purified standardized thrombin (human or bovine). Biopharm sales purifed thrombin as well as hematological biothecnologies. The attached document has the reference of the assay but it was published in the Proceedings of the New York Academy of Sciences.
