In the USA the market for varied ethnic foods, and international foods is extremely broad, and can be seen as comprising what we call American food. Look at any Yellow Pages section of a telephone book under 'restaurants' and the fare is primarily ethnic and/or of foreign nationality. Jewish delicatessens abound, and you might enquire for the the best sellers at such locations to get a feel for neighborhood or regional markets.

It is not entirely unusual for eateries to combine foods of different ethnic groups (a Chinese food bar within a kosher Israeli restaurant in the eastern suburbs of Cleveland, for example) or for Jewish recipes to be 'tweaked' to American health oriented preferences, e.g., skinless chicken dishes. The kosher Israeli restaurant just mentioned is also popular with Moslem customers who observe culinary restrictions very similar to kosher laws. Jews and Moslems break bread there regularly. Across the nation, matzah ball soup is common in non-Jewish restaurants that cater to the mainstream business crowd at lunchtime.

Some Jewish foods (matzah ball soup) are popular enough to have assimilated into the non-Jewish mainstream, and can be found in restaurants and supermarkets. Bagels, for instance, are common fare. These come in varied sweet or savory "flavors," sometimes with regional variants, e.g., the southwestern green chili bagel, where green chili is a common element in local recipes. Other breads like Jewish rye and challah can be bought in almost any supermarket; there are Jewish bakeries in most cities and suburbs.

There are ethnic sections in almost every American supermarket where Mexican, Asian, Jewish and "international" ingredients, dishes and breads may be purchased, including foods labeled "kosher." Although it is inferior to home-cooked Jewish food, one can easily find prepared, pre-packaged foods there, like gefilte fish and borsht; frozen foods that include soups and baked goods. Many supermarkets also carry an array of Jewish specialty foods in season for specific Jewish holidays like Passover, for example.

It is probably safe to say that international and ethnic foods comprise a substantial part of the menu we call "American" food, along with the fare at fast foods chains all over country, which incidentally also have ethnic variants like Panda (Asian) and Chipotle (Mexican). The market for specifically Jewish food is so broad, the best determination of "favorite Jewish food" might be to query the best-seller lists at American supermarket chains and American-Jewish delicatessens.
