End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is a critical condition that requires treatments such as maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) to preserve kidney function, manage debilitating symptoms, and ensure patient survival. This is often accompanied by physical, psychological, and social challenges. Vascular access, adherence to a strict diet, persistent fatigue, and itching severely impact patients’ sense of well-being and quality of life. In addition to conventional treatments, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is used to address these issues. Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) includes a wide range of unconventional therapies such as acupuncture, herbal medicines, mind-body therapies in the form of meditation and yoga, and nutritional supplements, each of which addresses different aspects of physical and mental health. What is your opinion on the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in adult patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in relation to maintenance hemodialysis (MHD)? Do you have experience or ideas about the benefits or harms of this approach?
