He was a Nobel laureate in Chemistry for the well-known ammonia from atmospheric nitrogen in 1909, but on the other hand the one who militarized Chemistry during WWI by the introduce of the vast scale usage of Chemical Warfare Agents in battlefields.

I would like to bring into the discussion the following:
Fritz Haber was in favor of CWAs until his death. In 1919 he stated: “Chemical warfare is certainly no more horrible than flying pieces of steel; on the other hand, the mortality from gas injuries is smaller”. And from the casualties’ point of view, he was correct. Less than 1 % of the total fatalities during WWI were from poisonous gases.
