I think it depends upon Work Life Balance.Work might be urgent but not important while family is both important and urgent. Work-life balance scenario should be evaluated on a regular basis. It must be remembered that achieving work-life balance is a never-ending journey, and the needs and priorities of a person will be different at different times in life. An effective work life balance has the potential to significantly improve employee morale, reduce absenteeism and retain them in today’s global marketplace. Hence, companies may devise programs which may be offered in conjunction with benefits such as health, life, and disability insurance, or on a standalone basis. The concept of work life balance is getting a great deal of attention in the corporate world and the challenge of work life balance in our society is unlikely to disappear. Still, it is necessary that all organizations should try to provide for work life balance as it makes the employees Happy in an organisation.

Employee happiness, along with related areas of study of emotions in the workplace, is a growing and popular area of consultancy in the USA and there are numerous different products on the market which attempt to measure employee happiness and emphasise the value of this measure for organisational success. In particular, it is argued that this is key to employee retention. The key factors often include traditional measures of satisfaction combined with measures of cultural 'fit'. See this article in the WSJ for an overview : http://www.wsj.com/articles/BL-SOURCEB-21785
However, some recent research on employee satisfaction has suggested there may be an inverse relationship between satisfaction and performance for particular industries, it remains to be seen whether this will also be true for employee happiness.
I am writing my dissertation on the relationship between employee engagement and organizational performance in a specified population. Theoretically, an engaged employee is a happy employee because the individual's work-related needs are being met. A validated workplace engagement assessment instrument is the Ultrecht Work Engagement Scale. I have insertted a reference here, and also a link regarding the instrument's validity.
Best wishes for your research!
Cheers,
