Nowadays, many people from different institutions in different states or countries, work together on the same projects as collaborators. By doing this, they are able to transcend the barriers of language, location, distance and time difference. But is this a good concept? What is the value of collaborations?
I think people from different place have different way of thinking, & different ideas. It is good for research right
It is really very good. It let you understand the spirit of team and explore new ways to deal the problems. However, all these are possible as long as members are honest toward the goal of the team/group.
I think its really important. It brings together people of different backgrounds and with different possibilities. It helps sharing experiences and its often good for thinking out of the box. We had such collaborations which got out nice papers which no group of their own had been able to publish because we all looked only at small parts of the puzzle.
Of-course collaboration is good in many sense. One can share /discuss/know the view of different peoples and the way of thinking or analyzing particular thing may be different for different peoples which results in a nice output. On the other hand different field of expertise of different people can leads to better understanding of any particular issue. Most importantly, in a collaboration it is easy to get measurement facility which we do not have which is quite important too. But personally what I feel necessary for research is "to think independently".
Collaboration is realy important but it is dangerous to manage. Put together people with different background and intellectual styles can lead to conflicts. Your answers to this question are all correct. I too believe that collaboration is very useful and very important in research and development. Collaboration is, as mentioned above brings together a team of experts in their own fields. By doing so, a multidisciplinary project becomes surmountable because of the input from each expert. Also, the contributions from each expert in the team allows for brainstorming on issues making the resolutions of issues come faster than when a single individual is alone in solving the challenges and problems of a project. However, there are also issues that come with multiple member teams. For instance, differences in opinion and manner of delivery may hamper the success of a project. How about the issue of distance? Do you think this affects the success of a multidisciplinary collaboration?
For me collaborative work paves the way for the success of interdisciplinary areas of research. At this point, no single individual can possess all the skills and knowledge which are necessary to carry out various areas of research. To minimize the costs of out sourcing and training, collaborations can be used instead.
