Basset force is a term defining history of particle motion in any unsteady viscous flow. It is also a fact that due to the lag occurring in the formation of boundary layer in any decelerating or accelerating particle, this term comes into picture. So can it be understood that in flow full of secondary circulations generated by inflexion in shear stress, Basset force will be a dominant force?

When we account the particle-bed collision, Basset force consideration is important. Generally fine sediments rest near bed, there calculation of Basset force can be taken.
Calculation procedure can be seen from some papers.

Recent empirical and numerical evidence shows that the Basset force plays an important role in the description of acceleration of relatively small sediment particles moving close to solid boundaries. This force can make the numerical solution of the equations of motion computationally time and memory consuming. This technical note presents a two-stage methodology to deal with the difficulties associated with computing the Basset force. The Basset term is first approximated based on a semiderivative (fractional mathematics), and then the integration time is redefined in terms of appropriate flow and particle time scales, thus, avoiding unnecessary computations. Important savings in computational time are reported.
In the context of sediment transport by turbulent flow including onset of particle motion the time dependend force on individual particles, in particular the Basset term can hardly be described because of complex particle interaction and the very small space and time scale. It will not help describing erosion/sedimentation mass flux and transport rate on engineering scale.
