Has any one checked the status of mitochondrial dynamics upon c-Myc over expression in primary cells? I know myc is a potent regulator of mitochondrial bio genesis but can we really instigate mitochondrial bio genesis in suppose cells that have damaged mitochondria using myc over expression?
c-Myc promotes the glutaminolysis in which the uptake of glutamine is required for the supply of the metabolic substrate of TCA cycle in mitochondria. Further, c-Myc activates the transcription level of PGC1-alpha, the master regulator of biogenesis of mitochondria. Thus, c-Myc overexpression induces the rapid turn-over of mitochondria both in normal and cancerous cells. However, the relationship between c-Myc and macroautophagy (degradation of damaged mitochondria) remains elusive.

That makes a lot of sense now especially since there is such a huge branch of literature suggesting that myc is involved in mitochondrial biogenesis!
