Various type of petroleum hydrocarbons (Aliphatic, Aromatic, PAH etc) could be present in water and as per Indian Water Standards (IS 10500), potable water should be free from TPH. In case of PAH, no relaxation is provided even in worst case while for other contaminants the MCL is 1 PPB.
