I have a system containing both nematic and smectic phases simultaneously. I am trying to make an image to see only the smectic phase from the system by using the local bond order parameter (q6q6). To see only the smectic phase, the image is formed only for the particles having a q6q6 value greater than 0.7 and the nearest neighbors greater than 12. But I am not getting the correct image. At the higher densities, as I see the full image of the system, it appears that the whole system is smectic. But when I try to see the image using the criterion, the solid particles are seen less than expected. Is the criterion I am using to visualize the smectic phase not correct? Or Is it possible that actually the system has smectic A and smectic B phases at that particular density and when I try to visualize it using the above method then only smectic B phase is being shown?
