I would like to know what the main role and importance of 'Nanotechnology' is in recent power system applications especially in the smart grid research studies.

Nanoparticles doping is also used for fuel cells, and to some extent in biodiesel production catalysts

I can only answer for solar applications but nanotechnology is having a widespread impact. As Gerro mentioned above nanoparticles can be used in the working fluid as both broadband solar absorbers and spectral filters. Nanoparticles can also be used as thin film anti-reflective coatings on glass as well as used for developing low-E window coatings. Nanopatterning and thin film deposition techniques are also being employed for AR coatings, low-E coatings, and daytime night sky radiators among many other things.

I found out one of the most important applications of Nanotechnology is in solar systems especially PV types.
But, do you know other cases in which nanotechnology plays a crucial role? For example, in the making of FACTS devices, electric vehicle, some other power electronic equipment.

NANOTECHNOLOGY BASED E-TEXTILES APPLICATIONS -
The current research is an indicator, wearable electronics will go far beyond just very small electronic devices or wearable, flexible computers. Not only will these devices be embedded in textile substrates but an electronics device or system could ultimately become the fabric itself. Electronic textiles (e-textiles) will allow the design and production of a new generation of garments with distributed sensors and electronic functions. Such e-textiles will have the revolutionary ability to sense, act, store, emit, and move – think biomedical monitoring functions or new man-machine interfaces – while ideally leveraging an existing low-cost textile manufacturing infrastructure.
An Inverter Woven From Flat Component Fibers for e-Textile Applications:
In the most fundamental approach, e-Textile circuits will be made by weaving component fibers into circuits. The weaving pattern will determine the circuit function. A key require-ment of such e-Textile circuits is reliable electrical contact between fibers. Contacts which rely only on the pressure between fibers are preferred since they preserve the drapability of real fabrics. Since thin-film device fabrication technology is planar, the component fibers, made by the slit-film technique, are at. Thus a slight edge-to-edge curvature (with a radius of curvature as large as 500mm) can either prevent or promote electrical contact. Using fibers with thin-film transistors of amorphous silicon, study the processes that produce the desired fiber curvature. A layer of stressed silicon nitride is used to create the curvature. The stress in this layer can be controlled by the deposition parameters and successful fabrication of curved fibers with vastly improved electrical contact.
