The move to Industry 4.0 will bring with it many advances in efficiency and productivity, but also many changes in the way industrial processes work, particulalry in management control. So my questions are simply based on this fact: what is the role of management control in the Industry 4.0 ? Management is the most human action, making a decision is based on many factors, which computer can compute faster and faster, so is there any need for human action? Do we need management in the digital age? What management theory is related to Industry 4.0 or the 4th revolution?
Of management control systems in the Industry are important for financial stability of the companies and for development.
I can try to answer for decision making, decision implies that yo have a situation with several options and that you have to choose one. If the decision problem is well posed and that an optimal solution can be identified by a mathematical algorithm / model and that you have enough data to fill your model, then you don't need a human. The problem is that a decision problem which is well posed is often a simplification of the real decisional context or you are not able to have all the required data to decide, then a human brain which is expert of the context is usefull. In other words: a machine can decide on the perimeter/rules/context/data you are able to master when you create your decisional model, if you can secure that this perimeter/rules/context/data will not change and that your model is always valid then a machine can decide.
