Social science generally study human society & social relationships - the study on interaction between human social behavior with animal social behavior considers social science or veterinary science etc? E.g. the impact of pet companionship, rescued dog successful rescue attempts etc on human behavior, relationship between police dog & K9 unit etc.
Is there a field of study called Animal Social Science if the study is pertaining only to animal social behavior alone. Or this kind of study categorized under veterinary science etc?
I think what you are thinking of is applied animal behaviour. Researchers in this field come from a variety of areas, (behavioural ecology, ethology, vet science etc). If you are interested, you should look at the Animal Behavior Society website... you'll find links to the applied field.
Applied Animal Behaviour and then it depends what kind of social behaviour (group behaviour, mating behaviour etc.) you are interested in and what are good animal models for it..
This is also referred to as the Human Animal Bond or Human Animal Interaction. It is looked at in many ways, such as the health benefit of owning a dog, how fish tanks increase food consumption in retirement homes, or how animals increase human interaction in autistic children. Purdue has a center for this type of work. http://www.vet.purdue.edu/chab/ and interacts with the Center for Animal Welfare Sciene, which is mor applied ethology. Hope this information helps.
I assume by animal social behavior alone that you're not assessing human-animal interactions. If you are, Brianna's info is great. Another primary term there is human-animal relationships. Refs to applied animal behavior above are good for starters, but applied generally means exactly that, i.e., studying the behavior to develop some applied knowledge (e.g., improving welfare, understanding interventions) rather than what others might refer to as pure science (i.e., understanding behavior solely for the sake of the behavior alone). The Animal Behavior Society is still a good place to get more info even if you're interested solely in pure science.
In the end, where to look & the terms/language used for the field vary depending on the species and topic of interest. For example, in primatology you might search: "primate social behavior," "Social dynamics." I'm sure there are other labels for other species in other fields. You'll also find quite a bit of social behavior information in studies of animal learning and communication.
