Iam going examine the properties blendened concrete by partial replacement of cement with calcium bentonite. The normal consistency of bentonite is much higher than cement. Can any one help me selection of water/cement ratio for trail mix design, what is the relation between consistency of cement and W/C ratio of concrete?

To summarise, the Vicat needle test is used to check the consistency. It doesnt just depend on the w/c but also the use of admixture and mixing method. The general rule is that a higher w/c will lead to better consistency if mixed well. However, there are many other constraints such as workability and compressive strength that have to be taken into consideration when designing a mix.

Use a known local concrete mix design, your goal would be to match the w/c ratio after adding your Cal Ben. Add your Cal Ben to the mix just as you would any other additive. Then using the normal cubic yard batch calculations methods, include the Cal Ben. To do so you must reduce other parts.
Cement is added as a dry material with a known specific gravity and unit weight. Aggregate and other add mixtures have known unit weight and specific gravities.
I am not sure what Cal Ben "consistency" you are looking at, but it can range from bone dry almost like a rock to a remolded slurry with a range of specific gravities.
How are you planning to add the Cal Ben? as a bone dry powder similar to the cement? or as a slurry, created by placing the Cal Ben in a blender with water? then get a unit weight and check the specific gravity.
If you use the Cal Ben as a bone dry powder like the cement, a variable would be the particle size of the powdered Cal Ben as compared to the cement you are replacing. If you take similar weights of powdered Cal Ben and cement and add the same amount of water to each, do you get the same results?

It depends on the cement type that you desire to work with, but generally suppose Portland cement, by increasing the w/c ratio, the strength decreases. the suggested ratio is less than 0.4 to 0.6. You may take a look at this
