I am analyzing two NiO samples with different synthesis conditions. I have attached normalized intensity XPS spectra for the same of Ni 2p3/2.
As one can observe the difference between BEs of satellite and main line is varying. What are the possible reasons for the same ?
I am new to XPS. I have only read literature but have no experience in analyzing the data yet.
The figure shows solid lines and dotted lines and lines of different colors. Please identify lines and show or explain the difference between main line and satellite.

The solid line and dotted line represent different samples. The relaxation mechanism for each peak from left to right is as follows
peak 1: cd9L-1 (one electron from Ligand orbital i.e. oxygen into d orbital of Ni)
peak 2 : electron transfer from adjacent NiO6 cluster
peak 3: cd10L-2 (two electrons from ligand into Ni 3d)
peak 4: cd8L (no electron transfer)
