I like to know the reason behind paying high Article Publication Charges as a fee for publishing our work in an indexed journals

The reason, I think, is because a lot of journals work as a business and are trying to make money. Some of them are able to avoid charges to authors because they receive more revenue from subscriptions and advertisements. I personally try to find those journals as it reduces my own personal costs.
