What is the purpose of adding salt to extract drugs from saliva matrix?

I need to optimize good extraction method to extract furosemide drug from saliva matrix and identify by using LC/MS/MS instrument. IN literature they have added salts and in some papers they have control the PH of the solution. Could please someone explain me that is salt addition is good for LC/MS/MS instrument and what is the basis of controlling pH of the saliva matrix ?
