The lipids extraction from plant sample depends on the nature of the used solvent, the sample solvent ration, the temperature and time of extraction.
Solvents such as hexane, ether, petroleum ether, dichloromethane or chloroform, methanol, ethanol, acetone and a mixture of chloroform and methanol (2:1) are used.
For lipid extraction using Soxhlet extraction, you have to use a non polar solvent. And the best ones would be hexane and petroleum ether. Only thing you should care about is the completion of the extraction process properly before switching to a higher polarity solvent as we normally do in Soxhlet extraction for herbs.
