PK analysis of herbs is problematic, because PK cover analysis of drug (single substance) concentration changes across the time. Of course if you have 2, 3 or 6 substances still you can administrate them in one treatment and analyse PK every single substance for example using MS/MS etc. But depending on doses and PD characteristics analysis cover effect of interactions between them not single PK profile/characteristics. Analysis of single dose PK in case of simultaneous administration few substances is possible now only using microdosing methods see document below:
Guidance for Industry, Investigators, and Reviewers Exploratory IND Studies
https://www.fda.gov/media/72325/download
Unfortunately its not applicable in case of herbs etc. Key Health Authorities provide many different guidances and guidelines to help analyse PK of different drugs (single substances) or interactions between them
(see my e-book Book Farmakokinetyka i biofarmacja
page 483-485).
But we still have no tools for analysis of PK composite drugs which often cover dozens of different pharmacologicaly active compounds. We are not ready for so complex analysis now. This is why still best way to get PK profile and PK parameters in case of herbs is analyse separately PK of active substances after their earlier synthesis. Of course finally after such analysis you have PK of single substance not "herb PK" ....
