What is the perspective of non-medical persons regarding online consultation for diagnosis & treatment of disease? Any questionnaire for survey or study available?
You are taking a survey by asking on ResearchGate (maybe not a very good survey, but that is a different issue).
I am not a medical professional.
I have no problem with this in theory. Also in theory it should be an approach to improve health care to many by reducing the need to drive to a clinic.
In practice there are huge issues. The first issue is fraud. What stops a con from setting up a web page and offering medical services in a catch-me-if-you-can environment? A consumer can shift the burden to companies by only using in-network providers. Who makes sure that the company has investigated each provider? The friendly Nigerian who wants to give me 5 million pounds can now offer additional services at discount prices.
On-line treatment would seem to be more difficult unless the medical problem is with the fingers (digital?). Small joke :) If all that is required is a pill, then it would be easy for a doctor to see a patient digitally and then wire a refill perscription to the local pharmacy. So there could be a benefit here.
I would also worry about care for rare conditions. We all hear about the cases where person X has visited five clinics each one misdiagnosing the problem until that sixth clinic where Doctor Y notices "this" minor symptom and correctly diagnoses the problem that shows up in 1 patient in 700,000 with "these" basic symptoms. With online consultation the minor symptom might never be noticed.
