Hot water heating system for residential use is a norm. The portion of electricity bill for water (and space) heating can be around 30% in some countries. Is there any information of this for Gulf countries (Saudi Arabia and surrounding countries) or reference to areas with arid climate?
From an unpublished source, the value is about 8-10% of electricity use. Hope to get more solid figure.
It should be ceartinly less. I have been in Saudi Arabia for two years. I used seldomly hot water heather for taking shower. The water running in tab was already hot during the whole year. Only in winter season I used the water heater for a couple of months.

The use of water heater actually to compensate the continuous air-conditioning that cools most inner walls containing metal water tubes. Thus as water comes out from tap, they are 'cooled'. This has been my experience throughout the years except for about 3 months in summer where cold water is actually hot.

the gulf countries are rich with oil and considered as energy- wasteful communities. Although these countries are hot in general, but the water heaters are used in common and it took from 10 to 22 % of the electricity bill.

This is an ideal scenario to arrange the air conditioner heat exhausts to heat the water, at least in part. Every bit of energy consumed should be utilised as effectively as possible, regardless of where you are on earth. Then I suspect you might reduce your water heating bill to zero, or very close to it.
