The organic matter content in the soil is very important when it comes to soil bacteria viability. some studies recommend having an average of 20% of organic matter in soil so that soil bacteria can thrive. However, this amount of organic matter is nearly impossible to find or to implement especially in arid zones where the OM doesn't exceed 1%. some recent study says that 5 % is the rational amount of OM. I would like to hear from you and suggest some papers related to this topic.

The optimum limit of agricultural soils for soil organic mattter is a very vague term , too much generalsied , we need to narrow down to atleast type of land use with other biophysical parameters...

Thank you for your interesting point of vue. Let me clarify that we are discussing the topic from microbium prospectives. Since organic matter is the key to microorganisms survival in soil. Please share with us if there are other parameters as important as OM on bacterial survival.

Dear Sir, Please find attached file. We recorded some results in forest soil under nitrogen fixing tree species and organic matter in soil is near about 5%. The microbial communities are good and identify some dominant fungus species. However, optimal and more amount of organic matter can be decomposable and mineralized in the soil then that contributed the humus formation soil otherwise maximum in immobilization.

Its depends on slope and vegetation from higher elevations it deposit more quantum of biomass and the soils of konkan region near to sahydri ranges having more o.m. content.
