I am using the Fenton process to remove pollutants and want to measure the Total Organic Carbon (TOC).
I need to stop the Fenton reaction during the measurement. What is the best reagent to add for stopping the reaction without affecting the total organic carbon?

I have tried using inorganic quenching agents, such as Sodium Thiosulfate (Na2S2O3). I have seen others mention sodium azide, but it seems to be more dangerous. When using the above-mentioned quenching agents, it is important to ensure that other substances in the solution do not react with them.
There are also other possible methods, such as freezing to remove free radicals, but I do not have specific evidence for this. Perhaps it's worth a try. :)
Yuhui Ge Thank you for your answer. However, it should be noted that Na2S2O3 do not completely halt the reaction. Perhaps using freezing and sodium thiosulfates together could be a suitable option to effectively stop the Fenton process.
Badreddine Sellam, as discussed in PM Na2CO.3 is suitable.
Na2S2O3 likely do not reach fast with H2O2 so the reaction might not stop instantly.
Do not use azide as both Fe(II) and Fe(III) azide salts are explosive.
Sodium carbonate could be beneficial one in this particular case.
Moreover you can try with the incorporation of excess amount of ice into the system to quench the reaction immediately.
