As a classical biocatalyst, what is the normal range of the catalytic constant (Kcat) value of the typical enzymes? What does it mean if it's less than 1/s?
kcat in s-1 does vary a lot from one enzyme to the other as shown in the joint table. If less than 1 s-1 it means the enzyme is slow as kcat indicates the number of reactions occuring in one sec for one molecule of enzyme (at saturating concentration of substrate).
