It is known that in orchids, some hairs are formed in the immature embryos or post-germination. Similarly, basal portion of the protocormus-like bodies form hairs. Can these hairs be considered homologous to root hairs formed in the collet region post germination in many other families? In other words, what is the nature of cells that form these hairs in orchids? The question reflects the fact that it is considered that the radicle in orchid embryo is not formed. Is that really so?
