Hemoglobinopathies ,Thalassemia and Sickle cell disease are a heavy economic burden and major health issue.Preventive measures are a big help.Screening tests available but come with a price tag.Compulsory screening is a financial burden to a country lie INDIA.Hence a stong national policy is a must.
Is there any policy of health as such in India ? Do people know who is the present health minister of India and why (what are his qualifications and achievements in the field of public health ?) Most of the national health projects are formed in Geneva ! The administration is run by bureaucrats who think that they are a super species and can manage any government department by issuing a few orders on paper and taking care to be YES man to the minister. Does any health administrator know the difference between incidence and prevalence ? Do you know that only 2% of the total expenditure of budget is spent on health ? (and that includes EVERY THING) Most of the research (!) done is irrelevant for our own diseases. At the best some states will publish some data on population surveys (reliability questionable). Sending satellite to mars is easier than implementing your suggestions
