Hello, I am to perform Raman spectroscopy on PbS nanoparticles . Although I have found a few existing literature performing Raman on PbS with 632.8 nm excitation , there are several other articles that have performed the same using varied wavelengths such as 514.5 nm and even 532 nm. so i want to know what is the most suitable excitation wavelength for performing Raman spectroscopy on PbS nanoparticles?. Thank you.
Intrinsically, the Raman scattering efficiency depends on inverse wavelength to the power of 4, implying the lower the wavelength the better. However, the choice of wavelength depends also on the absorption spectrum of the material, and whether the material fluoresces. As far as I understand, PbS absorbs in the near IR, so lower wavelenghts should be better, and 514.5 nm (argon ion) and 532nm (diode or feq. doubled Nd:YAG) lasers tend to be more powerful than 632.8 nm (HeNe).
